Three steps

1. Search first. If the instrument, record and role are already claimed here, add a source to that claim instead of starting a new one.
2. Submit the artist, the record, the instrument and the role it played, with your first source: a grade, a link or publication, and a short quote if you have one.
3. A reviewer checks the source. Add more sources any time, from you or anyone else - a claim needs independent evidence before it is VERIFIED.

What counts as a source

Something specific and checkable: an interview, liner notes, a video, a studio photo, a publication, a manufacturer manual, a forum post, or another named kind. See the standard for what makes a source grade A, B or C, and what independence means.

Images

A photo of the instrument, the studio or the artist is welcome when anyone may reuse it: CC0, public domain, CC BY, CC BY-SA, or your own photo released under CC BY. Upload it from the page it belongs to, with the link to where the image and its licence can be seen and the credit the photographer asks for. A reviewer checks the licence at the source before the image appears, and it is shown with that credit and a link back.

What never to submit

• Article text beyond one sentence
• Images that are not under a free licence: album covers, press shots, magazine scans and screenshots are never free, even with a link back
• Audio
• Lyrics
• Anything copied from another database
