The loping, syncopated bassline under the clavinet is a Minimoog, not a bass guitar, part of the TONTO-based rig Wonder used for the whole album; a touch of drive on the way into the mixer gives it the warm, slightly overdriven edge heard on the record. It is well documented in interviews and studio accounts from the Songs in the Key of Life sessions. Keep it monophonic with a touch of glide between the funkier runs.
