"Alterna" is a guitar-driven J-rock/dance-pop track with a synth layer under the band; this is a sustained pad/string layer under the arrangement, credited to Shintaro Hagiwara, Sousaku Sasaki, approximated from Yamaha Motif ES/XS workstations, Nord Lead 2/3 leads and Access Virus TI, Avex's rock-leaning mid-2000s rig. The waveform stack and filter envelope are set to sit under Hamasaki's vocal without crowding it.
