The repeating riff is a Fairlight CMI cello sample; Bush and Del Palmer built the demo at home on the CMI itself. Since there's no sampler here, this approximates the Fairlight's 8-bit cello timbre with a detuned saw/triangle pair, a touch of noise for the sample's characteristic grain, post crush for the low bit-depth, and the same AMS DMX delay and Quantec room simulator used on the record.
