Sitting above the bass, 'Shining' carries a sustained pad that fills out the harmonic bed under the drums, built in the brighter, bouncier hybrid synth palette of Topping's mid-2010s Hot Creations/Kaluki run. It is filtered and modulated to stay out of the way of the drums and any vocal, sitting just forward enough in the mix to read as the track's hook.
