The famous opening phrase is a Fairlight CMI sample of a shakuhachi flute, not a subtractive synth patch, so this reconstruction shows how a 3-oscillator engine would approximate that breathy sampled tone. The song's bass line, often mistaken for synth, is actually Tony Levin's fretless bass through a Boss OC-2 octave pedal. Documented via multiple retrospective analyses of the track's production.
