On "Midnight", Vince Clarke's rig of the period: Roland System 100M modular for sequenced bass and arps, a Roland Jupiter-8 for pads and leads, Korg MS-20 for growl bass lines. Here it carries a sustained synth pad that fills out the harmony behind the vocal, slow attack so it swells in rather than jumps. Reconstructed by ear from the record; no official patch sheet survives for this part, so the specific oscillator and filter values are an informed approximation anchored to the album's known gear.
