The instantly recognisable plucked arpeggio hook that opens and threads through Automatic is a short, decaying synth-pluck patch with almost no filter movement; the pluck character comes entirely from a fast amplitude envelope, chorused and delayed for shimmer. It became one of the most identifiable synth hooks of Japanese pop in this period.
